Effect Of MELT On Thoracolumbar Connective Tissue

Reviews by physicians, neuroscientists, and researchers have supported MELT’s grounding in scientific principles and its potential for healing. Now, a clinical study (performed at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and presented in September 2015 at the 4th Annual Fascia Congress in Washington, DC), provides specific data showing that MELT helps reduce chronic or recurrent low back pain, decrease connective tissue thickness, and increase flexibility. Some of the findings:

 A single 30-minute MELT session decreased stiffness and increased flexibility (lateral and forward flexion), and continued MELT sessions further decreased stiffness and increased flexibility.

 Using a visual analogue pain scale (the “0 to 10” scale that physicians use routinely to assess pain), subjects reported that MELT reduced pain significantly, from an average of “4.4” to “3.0”.

 Ultrasound imaging showed that MELT decreased perimuscular connective tissue thickness of L2 paraspinal muscles, with continued improvements over time.

The researchers concluded that those who practiced MELT showed “a trend toward a decrease in subjects’ perimuscular connective tissue thickness and reduction of stiffness and increase of relaxation in paraspinal tissues immediately after MELT,” and determined that “the study will continue with a larger sample size and normal controls”.

 For me, the true value of MELT is expressed in the personal results achieved. While the science of MELT is extremely important - and fascinating - what really gets my attention is the results that I and so many others have achieved with this practice.
